The Domestic Church

350. Why is the Christian family called a domestic church? (CCC 1655-58, 1666)

The Christian family is called the domestic church because the family manifests and lives out the communal and familial nature of the Church as the family of God. Each family member, in accord with their own role, exercises the baptismal priesthood and contributes toward making the family a community of grace and of prayer, a school of human and Christian virtue and the place where the faith is first proclaimed to children.

Aldersgate Day for Anglicans

Lesser Festival of John & Charles Wesley (CoE Common Worship Sanctorale)

O God of mercy,
who inspired John and Charles Wesley with zeal for your gospel:
grant to all people boldness to proclaim your word
and a heart ever to rejoice in singing your praises;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Palm Sunday 2011

The Donkey

When fishes flew and forests walked
And figs grew upon thorn,
Some moment when the moon was blood
Then surely I was born.

With monstrous head and sickening cry
And ears like errant wings,
The devil’s walking parody
On all four-footed things.

The tattered outlaw of the earth,
Of ancient crooked will;
Starve, scourge, deride me: I am dumb,
I keep my secret still.

Fools! For I also had my hour;
One far fierce hour and sweet:
There was a shout about my ears,
And palms before my feet.

Ash Wednesday 2011

Lord almighty and God of our ancestors, you who made heaven and earth in all their glory: All things tremble with awe at your presence, before your great and mighty power. Immeasurable and unsearchable is your promised mercy, for you are God, Most High. You are full of compassion, long-suffering and very merciful, and you relent at human suffering. O God, according to your great goodness, you have promised forgiveness for repentance to those who have sinned against you. The sins I have committed against you are more in number than the sands of the sea. I am not worthy to look up to the height of heaven, because of the multitude of my iniquities. And now I bend the knee of my heart before you, imploring your kindness upon me. I have sinned, O God, I have sinned, and I acknowledge my transgressions. Unworthy as I am, you will save me, according to your great mercy. For all the host of heaven sings your praise, and your glory is for ever and ever.
– The Prayer of Manasseh 1a, 2, 4, 6, 7a, b, 9a, c, 11, 12, 14b, 15b

Collect for Ash Wednesday (from the CoE’s Common Worship)
Almighty and everlasting God,
you hate nothing that you have made
and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent:
create and make in us new and contrite hearts
that we, worthily lamenting our sins
and acknowledging our wretchedness, may receive from you, the God of all mercy,
perfect remission and forgiveness;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Everything prayer

Ordinary Time 7 – Sunday

God be in my head, and in my understanding;
God be in mine eyes, and in my looking;
God be in my mouth, and in my speaking;
God be in my heart, and in my thinking;
God be at mine end, and at my departing.

Sarum Primer, 1558

God in my living, there in my breathing
God in my waking, God in my sleeping
God in my resting, there in my working
God in my thinking, God in my speaking

Be my everything, be my everything
Be my everything, be my everything

God in my hoping, there in my dreaming
God in my watching, God in my waiting
God in my laughing, there in my weeping
God in my hurting, God in my healing

Be my everything, be my everything
Be my everything, be my everything

Christ in me, Christ in me
Christ in me the hope of glory
You are everything

Christ in me, Christ in me
Christ in me the hope of glory
Be my everything

Be my everything, be my everything
Be my everything, be my everything
You are everything, Jesus everything
Jesus everything, You are everything

Wisdom

Proverbs 8:33-36 (MSG)

“33 Mark a life of discipline and live wisely; don’t squander your precious life. 34 Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me, awake and ready for me each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day’s work. 35 When you find me, you find life, real life, to say nothing of GOD’s good pleasure. 36 But if you wrong me, you damage your very soul; when you reject me, you’re flirting with death.”

Lord, help me to seek wisdom in every part of my life. Amen.

EDIT:
Proverbs 17:5b – I guess that schadenfreude is a misplaced & stupid thing in the eyes of God. May I not laugh at the misfortune of others if I do not want others to laugh at mine.

The hope, wish & prayer of a young man

Proverbs 4:1-13 (MSG)

1 Listen, friends, to some fatherly advice; sit up and take notice so you’ll know how to live. 2 I’m giving you good counsel; don’t let it go in one ear and out the other. 3 When I was a boy at my father’s knee, the pride and joy of my mother, 4 He would sit me down and drill me: “Take this to heart. Do what I tell you–live! 5 Sell everything and buy Wisdom! Forage for Understanding! Don’t forget one word! Don’t deviate an inch! 6 Never walk away from Wisdom–she guards your life; love her–she keeps her eye on you. 7 Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding! 8 Throw your arms around her–believe me, you won’t regret it; never let her go–she’ll make your life glorious. 9 She’ll garland your life with grace, she’ll festoon your days with beauty.” 10 Dear friend, take my advice; it will add years to your life. 11 I’m writing out clear directions to Wisdom Way, I’m drawing a map to Righteous Road. 12 I don’t want you ending up in blind alleys, or wasting time making wrong turns. 13 Hold tight to good advice; don’t relax your grip. Guard it well–your life is at stake!
